UPS Drones Will Transport Medical Supplies To Hospitals

UPS Drones Will Transport Medical Supplies To Hospitals: Unmanned aircraft have become another means of transporting goods. Leaving aside the playful use of these devices, it is clear that the possibilities they offer in other professional fields are almost endless.

UPS Drones Will Transport Medical Supplies To Hospitals

That’s what UPS has thought when using its drones to transport medical supplies between hospitals. A function that can certainly replace in part the expensive and sometimes dangerous flights of medical helicopters, especially over short distances. Now UPS has started using these drones to deliver these materials in North Carolina, in the United States.

The Tests of these Deliveries Begin

UPS is collaborating with a drone company called Matternet, which is based in California. The medical supplies delivery program seeks to be able to send to the Hospitals immediately not only medical supplies but also test results such as a blood test or similar. Matternet’s M2 drones will be in charge of making these deliveries to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh in North Carolina. This test will be supervised by the state department of transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.

In the test, packages weighing up to 2.2 kilos can be transported at a distance of 20 kilometres, so the drone’s flight will be at a considerable distance, speaking of drones of these characteristics. These drones will be remotely piloted by a pilot trained exclusively for this type of transport. As is logical, the result of the test will allow this experience to be exported to other Hospitals throughout the country. It is not the first time that Matternet has managed to do this type of experiment and test with drones.

In fact, it has also been working with Mercedes Benz in Switzerland, yes, with autonomous drones. In Switzerland, it has already completed up to 3,000 drone flights to deliver medical tests to specialized centres in that country. In any case, it seems that it is a matter of time before we begin to see drones fly through our cities transporting all kinds of goods and thus becoming a new player in company logistics.
